2027 Public Art Project
From August 2025 to September 2026, Springfield-Branson National Airport removed more than 80,000 square feet of its locally iconic water, grass and rock carpet. More than flooring, these custom-created carpet designs reflected the region’s unique, shared history, and its removal unlocked a level of nostalgia that led to three carpet squares being acquired by the Springfield History Museum on the Square.
To honor the legacy and impact of the SGF carpet, the Springfield-Branson National Airport is seeking submissions of a permanent art piece to display to the public. Artists are invited to create digital mock-ups of permanent art pieces that feature the carpet and our airport code, SGF, in a prominent way. Artists can access CMYK print ready images of the carpet square for their concepts. Artists should also include an artist statement that includes rationale for the piece, including how it pays homage to the SGF carpet, its impact on the greater Springfield, Mo. Community and its intended impact on the flying public today.
The airport will provide some of the materials and the chosen artist will be awarded a contract not to exceed $5,000.
