SGF announces new nonstop seasonal service to Gulf Shores

Nov 24 2025

The sandy beaches of the Gulf Coast are just one flight away from Springfield beginning this May. That’s when Allegiant Air starts seasonal, twice weekly service between the Springfield airport (SGF) and Gulf Shores International Airport (GUF).

The seasonal service will have two flights a week on Mondays and Fridays, beginning May 22. Tickets will be available for purchase on allegiantair.com or through Allegiant’s mobile app.
According to the Gulf Shores’ Convention and Visitors Bureau, more than 6 million people visit the 32 miles of sandy beaches near Gulf Shores annually.

“We know that Gulf Shores is a very popular destination for Southwest Missouri,” said Brian Weiler, director of aviation for Springfield-Branson National Airport. “This region is a beloved leisure destination for our community, and we are excited to add another SGF nonstop destination with Allegiant.”

Gulf Shores is the seventh Allegiant nonstop destination from SGF. For more than 20 years, Allegiant has served SGF passengers, providing nonstop service to top leisure destinations, including Las Vegas and Orlando. Gulf Shores is the fourth coastal nonstop Allegiant destination from Southwest Missouri.

Springfield and the surrounding Southwest Missouri represent a growing share of visitation to Alabama's Beaches, accounting for roughly 2 percent of Missouri-based travel. Visitors from this region tend to stay an average of eight nights and generate significant economic impact with their tourism dollars, reflecting strong repeat visitation and extended leisure travel behavior. The new nonstop service from Springfield to Gulf Shores International Airport (GUF) will further strengthen this connection, making it easier for residents of the Ozarks to experience Alabama's Beaches, said Crystal Hinds, vice president of marketing for Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism.

“I am so excited to see Allegiant connect the communities of Gulf Shores & Orange beach to Springfield, Missouri," said Jesse Fosanugh, airport director of Gulf Shores International Airport. "My wife was born and raised in Branson, Missouri, and having spent the past 16 years of my life working and living in the Ozarks, this announcement holds a special place in my heart. My family started visiting Gulf Shores about five years ago, and it was clear we weren’t the only ones in love with Alabama’s white sugar-sand beaches. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are uniquely known for being family-friendly. In addition to the beaches, you can enjoy countless attractions, dining options, biking and hiking trails, experience thriving eco-tourism and charter fishing. I’m already booking trips to see our friends, and I know they’ll be visiting us a lot more too!”

SGF ON TRACK FOR A RECORD-BREAKING YEAR

So far in 2025, more than 1.3 million passengers have flown through SGF, with a more than 10 percent increase in passengers. SGF expects to exceed 1.5 million passengers this year, a third record-breaking year in a row for Missouri’s third largest airport.

But the only way the airport continues to grow and attract more air service is by passengers choosing to fly SGF, said Weiler.

“It’s important for the community to support these route expansions by booking flights, so we can continue to expand air service in the future,” said Weiler. “When you fly local, you help the airport build a case with airlines to attract more nonstop destinations, add more flights and utilize larger planes. Thank you for flying Springfield.”
