Expect damage to your vehicle if you are parked at SGF.
Yesterday, a major hailstorm impacted Springfield-Branson National Airport. Our neighbors, the National Weather Service, have reported large hail throughout north and west Springfield.
We are still assessing damage to and throughout the airport, and impacts to flights related to the storm will likely continue throughout the day. For those flying today, check your flight status often with your airline.
For those with parked vehicles at the airport during the hailstorm, expect damage to your vehicle. Many are undriveable due to windshield damage, but airport staff has placed tarps on the most severely damaged vehicles in long- and short-term parking. Impacted passengers should plan to work with insurance providers on their next steps. In addition, rental car availability at the airport is limited. Passengers should make plans to get home another way.
We want to thank our airport staff for working quickly yesterday to support passengers and to the variety of people who worked throughout the storm to keep passengers safe. In addition, thank you to Convoy of Hope for donating tarps within two hours of the hailstorm.
