Pray for Your Cell Battery
Well, it’s finally happened — an airline is now accepting boarding passes displayed on cell phones. Air France-KLM began accepting the paperless pass last week on its service between Amsterdam and Paris.
The concept was floated last October by the International Air Transport Association. Here’s how it works: you download the boarding pass into your cell phone from the airline web site. It’s basically nothing more than a bar code that’s displayed on the screen of your cell phone. When it’s time to get on the plane, the phone’s screen is scanned with a bar code reader. Just like at the grocery store…sort of.
I’ve said it once, but I’ll say it again: I can image a lot of problems with this, the least of which are travelers howling at their dead cell batteries.
